I'm Back . . .
After being gone for much of the month of June (Honduras, Annual Conference, and Vacation), I can honestly say that I'm back. Really back. Turns out that being buried in the sand can do wonders for the soul.
For three months I would wake up in the morning, look at the calendar and count the days until our beach trip. I don't think I've ever been consumed by a desire for a vacation like I was this year. After the building campaign, the accumulation of other job/family/life related stress, and pent-up guilt over an abandoned doctoral dissertation, I needed time to vegetate. June was a blur of Honduras and Annual Conference and preaching and preparing to be gone when I was in the office
So, I went to the beach on fumes. One there, I managed to read Grisham's latest, speed-read two books by the guy that created Dilbert, and spent a day reassessing my dissertation. I got buried in the sand multiple times, watched the girls dive for shells, ate seafood (all you could eat crab legs one night), and went to bed listening to the sound of waves crashing on the beach. It didn't rain all week.
And in the midst of all that I found and hit my reset button.
So now I can blog again. And write sermons again. And look forward again.
So, here's the plan for moving forward:
- On Wednesdays, I'm going to put up a post about the upcoming Sunday's sermon/theme/scripture. Some first thoughts. I'd love your response. For the next two Sunday's we're going to look at the end of Matthew 13, BTW.
- Then, one other time a week, I'm going to offer some thoughts on other things going on (like the joy of finding my pillow, what our Bishop is up to, things coming up at church, etc.) as well as other ramblings of my soul and mind.
That's about it. Spread the word that I'm back. Check back in on Wednesday.
