Groups & Classes Offered
Creative HeARTS: Projects that Make a Difference - Led by Laurie
Stetelman & Thu Sellers
(for adults and girls 4th grade and up)
Experience creative arts that will serve others in our community and world. Enjoy participating in projects like pottery (making bowls for the Empty Bowls mission project), beading (can be sold to raise funds for missions) and sewing dresses for girls across the globe.
Encounter the Spirit - Led by Susan Eaton
(also offered on Monday mornings at 9 a.m.)
The Holy Spirit is our connection to the heart of the Father and our inheritance as followers of Jesus. To access the power and fullness of this gift, however, is a choice. What if you could tap into that power? What if you could walk in confidence and pray with authority? Wouldn’t you benefit from a deeper, more intimate connection with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Encounter the Spirit by Carolyn Moore is a seven-week small group guidebook aimed at helping you discover the treasure of a deep relationship with God, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus in America - Led by Bruce Case
The religious story of our nation runs deep. In America, the call for religious freedom and liberty stems from the very first settlers who inhabited this land. Freedom of conscience and freedom of religion color nearly every facet of our society—even to the present. Join us as we explore the key people and movements that made their mark on this continent. After 10 weeks, I hope we all have a better idea of why we are the way we are today. I also pray we’ll get a new appreciation for our own religious tradition and for the wisdom of our founders. We’ll enjoy clips from episodes of God in America, a PBS production. If you enjoy history and how it has shaped our theology, this course is for you. The suggested book is The Boisterous Sea of Liberty, by Harry Gilmer, who resides in Madison.
Mac-N-Cheese Ministries - Led by Dixie Evans & Melanie Storey
Join other cooks in the kitchen on Wednesday nights assembling casseroles for Parkway Heights members needing special comfort during an illness or trying time. Casseroles will be frozen and on hand when needed. This group will meet on the first and third Wednesdays beginning Sept. 5. Class will finish in time for you to pick up children at 7 p.m. Please be sure to register in advance.
Navigating the Minefield of Co-Parenting Beyond Divorce - Led by Cindy Re
A panel of attorneys, counselors, psychologists and/or other professionals, facilitated by Cynthia Re, will present an eight-week course to guide persons who are divorced in the trials and tribulations of co-parenting. Topics will include a discussion of personality types, various types of relationships, raising strong children, psychological effects of divorce on children, decision making, communication, discipline, alienation and beyond. If you know others in the community who could benefit from this class, we encourage you to please spread the word to them.
Sanctuary Choir Ministry - Led by Greg Fuller
The choir welcomes you to serve with them in sharing the gift of music and facilitating a worshipful experience on Sunday mornings and at other special services. The choir provides a supportive environment for members, cultivates mentoring relationships with student singers and supports other ministries at Parkway Heights. If you are looking for a great place to belong, consider becoming a part of the Sanctuary Choir Ministry.
Yoga Class - Led by Karen McCall
Join Karen's Kula (Community) on Wednesday nights in the Youth Chapel. This fall, the class will be instructed with the use of a chair each time. Chairs provide stability and modify yoga poses, so beginners can learn the basic form of poses. They are also beneficial to experienced yogis because they can deepen and refine pose alignment. Chairs have been added to the class, so everybody can participate. The class is open to anyone who would like to gain flexibility and strength.
