College Ministry

We love our college students from all area colleges and universities! The College Sunday School class is led by Lonny Schraeder and meets on Sundays at 9:40 a.m. in Room 240. You can keep up with our College Ministry on Facebook or Instagram. We will occasionally hold special events or free lunches for college students.

Southern Miss Wesley Foundation
Parkway Heights is happy to partner with the Wesley Foundation at the University of Southern Mississippi. The Wesley Foundation is the United Methodist ministry on campus. The Wesley Foundation exists to foster meaningful relationships that provide a faith family for students during their college years. Parkway Heights supports this ministry and its good work as much as possible.

Youth Ministry

In our Youth Ministry we take the church's mission and focus it on persons who are in the life-stage of adolescence. 

SN@P (Sunday Night @ Parkway) is the large group gathering of our Youth Ministry. It's a way for our students in grade 7-12 to come together for food, fun and fellowship. SN@Ps will focus on worship or an outreach project or a game night or special event. SN@P typically begins each week at 5:30 p.m. in Founders Hall during the school year.

Discipleship groups, or D-Groups, are our Youth Ministry's small groups that are divided by age and gender. D-groups meet on Wednesday evenings at the church or at area restaurants. D-Groups allow our young people to grow closer to each other by sharing more deeply in a smaller setting.

One of the favorite parts of our Youth Ministry is the tradition of youth retreats and special events. Our students experience personal growth and fun times through spiritual life retreats and other special activities throughout the year. 

United Methodists use the term "confirmation" to make the first time a baptized Christian publicly confirms their intention to live the vows of the baptismal and membership covenant and so becomes a professing member of a local congregation and the United Methodist Church. At Parkway Heights, our seventh graders typically begin the confirmation journey in early fall and are confirmed in November. This is a very important time in the lives of these young people, as they learn a great deal throughout many weeks of classes and then publicly profess their faith in Christ in front of their church family.

Preschool & Children's Ministry

Elementary-age children are in a constant state of discovery. At Parkway Heights, we want to encourage discovery and invite kids to grow in their relationship with God and others.

On Sunday mornings, this happens through a large group time of fun learning and worship combined with a small group time for deeper discussion and practical applications for each lesson. Our children also enjoy special activities such as Vacation Bible School in the summer, Children's Choir performances and fun outings.

Our Preschool Ministry provides Sunday School for children as young as three years old. There are also fellowship opportunities for preschoolers and their families throughout the year.

Children and preschool leaders have been background checked and have been approved to work with children.

Early Encounters

Early Encounters is the full-time preschool and daycare ministry of Parkway Heights.

Early Encounters' Mission: Early Encounters believes that all children begin learning at birth. It is the role of the teacher to provide guidance and expectations for the child that gives them positive learning experiences. We believe learning should be fun, challenging and always age-appropriate. It is our goal to instill a love for learning and the ability to make good choices in all children who enter our program.

Stephen Ministry

Christ Caring for People through People

There are times when every one of us experiences difficulties such as loss of a loved one, hospitalization, imprisonment, cancer, job loss, loneliness or other challenges. God never intended for us to go through these experiences alone. That's why God has brought us together as a congregation and why we have Stephen Ministry. Parkway Heights has been a Stephen Ministry congregation since 2016.

We invite you to prayerfully consider how and where you desire to serve at Parkway Heights. Whether you are good with numbers, words, technology or people, there is a place for you to be involved.

It’s a one-time test drive in a particular ministry that interests you to see if it’s really where God wants you to serve. If it’s not, you’re free to move on and try something different until you find the right fit. Additionally, any member of our staff is happy to meet with you to help discern where God is leading you to serve.

Outreach & Mission

Recovery Ministry

Parkway Heights' Recovery Ministry focuses on recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. We work in conjunction with other recovery groups in the area.

Music Ministry

The Sanctuary Choir, led by Dr. Gregory Fuller, welcomes you to serve with them in sharing the gift of music and facilitating a worshipful experience on Sunday mornings and at other special services. The choir provides a supportive environment for members, cultivates mentoring relationships with student singers and remains supportive of other ministries at Parkway Heights. If you are looking for a great place to belong, consider becoming a part of the choir ministry.

If contemporary worship music is more your style, then the Praise Band may be for you! Led by Dr. Sam Bruton, the Praise Band features vocalists, guitarists, a keyboardist and a drummer. The Praise Band leads worship at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings in Founders Hall.
